What it helps with and what to check

Good tasks to start with

  • Fast cited web research
  • Finding source pages to read yourself
  • Creating a first research brief

Keep an eye on

  • A citation can still fail to support the answer
  • Read important sources directly
  • Do not treat a generated summary as verified evidence

How to start

1

Start with a public question you can check

Open Perplexity using the official link on this page. Use the search mode available to your account and follow its sign-in requirements if shown; this exercise does not require selecting a paid model or connecting work files. Start with public information only. A suitable first question is which products a named company lists on its own website, rather than guessing its budget or buying intent.

2

Ask for sources, dates and unknowns

Example request to type into Perplexity: “Using Mozilla’s official public pages, list up to three products it currently describes and the audience each page explicitly names. For every item give the page title, URL and supporting wording. If a date or audience is not stated, say not stated. Separate website claims from your interpretation. Do not infer revenue, buying intent or private contacts.” This is a practice question, not a supplied research result. Replace Mozilla with a public organisation relevant to your permitted task.

3

Open each citation before keeping the claim

Perplexity documents numbered citations linking to original sources. Open the citation beside each important claim. Check the domain, page title, relevant passage and any publication or update date actually shown. Does the passage support the whole claim? A product page may describe a feature without proving adoption or business results. If the page is unavailable, record “source not checked” and leave the claim unresolved. A citation is a door to the evidence, not the evidence check itself.

4

Use a follow-up to repair one unsupported claim

The help page documents follow-up questions that keep the conversation context. For example: “The cited passage does not state the target audience. Revise that item to audience not stated, keep the source URL, and remove any inferred buying intent. Do not replace it with another unsupported claim.” Then reopen the source and check the revised answer. If sources disagree, keep both claims with their dates and scope; ask a narrower question instead of choosing the more confident wording.

5

Make a small evidence record

For each claim you want to keep, write: claim; page title and URL; supporting passage; date shown or not stated; checked, unsupported, conflicting or inaccessible; next question. An expected result is a few checked claims plus visible gaps, not a filled box for every field. Keep quotations distinct from your summary. Copy this record into your own permitted notes; check sharing permissions before sharing a conversation or document.

6

Bring checked notes back to the task

Use Research a customer background below to turn the checked public notes into a call-preparation brief; buying intent and private facts stay unknown unless independently confirmed. The linked guide provides a fictional practice and a place to draft and review. For a document excerpt, choose Summarise a document instead. These are AhaDo workflows, not a Perplexity integration: copy only material you may use, and keep its source labels. No customer outreach is sent by this tutorial.
