How to do this task

Follow the method below, do the task, then check the result. Tool links show options, not extra steps you must complete.

Traditional approach
Underline each main claim, then copy its supporting sentence and paragraph label into a brief. Add a separate list of missing evidence and qualifications. Compare the final brief with the original excerpt before distributing it.
Use AI

Open the document-summary app below and paste a non-sensitive excerpt with paragraph labels. Ask for the main claims, supporting evidence and limitations. Check each point against its labelled paragraph. For a long document, work section by section and review the combined summary; you can use the same prompt in your own assistant instead.

Prompt to use with your assistant

Write exactly three groups: main point, evidence with paragraph labels, and limitations or open questions. Use only this excerpt. Preserve the sample size, uncertainty and absence of a controlled comparison. Do not infer causation, compute new percentages or claim a business improvement. If two paragraphs conflict, cite both without choosing a winner. Excerpt:
What can go wrong
  • Incorrect: “The new checklist increases activation and lowers cost.” Correction: “Eight of twelve volunteers completed setup; causal impact and cost were not established.” Ask the assistant to attach a paragraph label to every claim and restore any missing caveat. If no source supports a claim, remove it rather than add a plausible citation.
  • A paragraph label points to nearby text but not the claim. Move the label to the exact supporting passage or remove the claim; a citation-shaped detail is not evidence.

Human check before use

  • Trace each claim and number to a paragraph label, not to model confidence.
  • Preserve sample sizes, hedges, missing measurements and conflicting evidence.
  • Read the original limitations before sharing the brief as a decision input.
Keep the final decision with a person

AI does not verify facts, arithmetic, identity or policy. Treat every generated line as a draft until you have checked it.
