What it helps with and what to check

Good tasks to start with

  • Microsoft-centered office productivity
  • Working across approved files, mail and meetings

Keep an eye on

  • Permissions determine what Copilot can find
  • Check every generated figure and business statement

How to start

Tick each step as you work. These checks stay on this page only; they do not verify results in the external tool.

0 of 5 steps checked

1

Check that Copilot is available in Word

Open Word with the account you are allowed to use for this work, then create a blank document. Microsoft says Copilot availability depends on the subscription and organisation settings. If the Copilot prompt box is missing, check the official help below or ask your administrator. Do not buy a plan just to finish this exercise; the linked AhaDo guide also lets you practise manually. Do not change your organisation’s sharing settings.

2

Try a weekly report with three small notes

Paste this fictional brief into the Copilot prompt box: “Write a short weekly update using only W1–W3. Use Done, Open issue and Next step. Keep the source labels. Do not invent progress percentages, owners, deadlines or approval. W1: Updated the public help draft; it has not been reviewed. W2: Two example links still need checking. W3: Proposed next step: check those links, then request a review; no review date is agreed.” Select Generate. Use this example first; use real notes only when the account, data rules and permissions allow it.

3

Check the claims before keeping the draft

Compare every sentence with W1–W3. “Help documentation is published” is wrong: only the draft changed. “Both links work” is also unsupported. The review date must remain unagreed. A useful result keeps the completed edit, the two unchecked links and the proposed next step separate. Smooth wording is not a receipt for work done. If Copilot skips a caveat or adds a fact, revise it before selecting Keep it. You can also use Regenerate or Discard, as described in Microsoft’s help.

4

Repair one error, then check the whole paragraph

If the draft says the document is published, ask: “W1 says the draft was updated, not published or approved. Correct that sentence. Keep W2’s two unchecked links and W3’s proposed status and unagreed review date. Add no new facts.” Recheck the revised paragraph against all three notes. For this example, a suitable line is: “Updated the public help draft; review is still pending [W1].” This is an authored check example, not a recorded Copilot answer. Shortening the paragraph must not remove the open issue.

5

Finish in the guided weekly-report workspace

Open the linked weekly-report guide for its step-by-step worksheet. Put only permitted notes in its source box, bring your draft to the draft step, and complete the human checks before using it. This page does not connect to Microsoft or import a Word file; move the text yourself. The worksheet text is lost on refresh or leaving, so copy it first. For a document excerpt instead of a weekly update, use Summarise a document below. Save any Word draft in an approved location and check who can access it before sharing.
