What it helps with and what to check

Good tasks to start with

  • Podcast and talking-head editing
  • Editing recordings through a transcript

Keep an eye on

  • Check transcription before cutting media
  • Use cloned voices only with consent

How to start

Tick each step as you work. These checks stay on this page only; they do not verify results in the external tool.

0 of 5 steps checked

1

Start with a recording you can check

Record yourself reading this fictional English note: “Alex will send the draft on Friday. The budget is fifteen dollars, not fifty. Launch is not approved; Sam will ask the manager.” Use only your own voice and this made-up material. Descript's current transcription list does not include Chinese and supports one language per file. For Chinese meeting notes, use the worksheet below with a transcript you have already checked; do not upload Chinese audio expecting this exercise to work.

2

Upload, then transcribe

Upload the recording from your computer and add it to the script for transcription. Choose English if asked. Play it beside the transcript. Check Alex, Sam, Friday, fifteen and “not approved” first. A fluent sentence can still contain the wrong number. Do not connect a work account or upload a real meeting for this first exercise.

3

Correct the text without rewriting the recording

If a word is wrong, double-click it and choose Correct in the hover toolbar. Correct only that instance, then replay the sentence. Use this dedicated text correction rather than deleting script text, which can cut media. If the transcript is already right, leave it alone. Do not use generated speech to make the speaker say what you wish they had said.

4

Export and check three facts

Export the transcript as a .txt file; include timecodes and speaker labels if useful. Open the exported file and compare it with the recording. Expected facts: Alex sends the draft on Friday; the stated budget is 15, not 50; launch is still unapproved and Sam only agrees to ask the manager. The note gives no calendar date or evidence of budget approval. Keep those unknowns. This is an authored answer key, not a measured Descript result.

5

Turn checked text into actions

Paste the checked text into the meeting-notes worksheet below. Separate actions, open questions and decisions. If a draft says “Sam will launch on Friday”, repair it to “Sam will ask the manager; launch approval is pending.” Friday belongs to Alex's draft, not the launch. Keep the source and uncertainties beside the result; finishing a checklist does not confirm anyone has approved or completed the work.
