Work out why you got it wrong with AI

Work out where your reasoning went off track, then choose what to practise next.

How to do this task

Follow the method below, do the task, then check the result. Tool links show options, not extra steps you must complete.

Traditional approach
Compare your working with a checked solution. Mark the first difference, explain why it happened, and write a question you can use later to test the same concept.
Use AI

In the guide, provide the question, your answer and a checked solution. Ask one assistant to suggest where the reasoning diverged and which concept to revisit. Confirm the cause by redoing that step yourself, then add one self-check question to your error log.

Prompt to use with your assistant
Use the question, learner answer, visible working and checked solution. Find the first incorrect shown step and explain how to check it. If working or a checked solution is missing, record what cannot be established and ask for that material; do not label the learner careless or diagnose a misconception from one final answer. Separate observed error, missing evidence, concept to revisit and one small hint. Give one same-method retry without its answer, keeping the answer key separate until the learner attempts it. Mark the retry not yet observed. Record a later explanation or attempt as new evidence, not proof of mastery. Material:
What can go wrong
  • One wrong answer becomes “careless with fractions”. Record the operation actually shown: adding numerators and denominators. A log should locate a step, not label a learner.
  • The correction gives a new answer without explaining equal-sized parts. Rewrite the fractions in twelfths, then check why their sum exceeds one.
  • A copied correction is logged as mastery. Leave the retry outcome unobserved until the learner explains the denominator and attempts the next question.

A Chinese AI assistant known for reasoning and coding-oriented models.

    Good for
    • Checking a maths solution one step at a time
    • Grouping short feedback excerpts with quote labels
    Watch out
    • Browser chat access and API billing are separate
    • A long explanation can still contain a wrong step

Human check before use

  • The official textbook decides the correct answer, not the AI
  • Decide for yourself whether the cause rings true
  • Answer the self-test before reading any explanation
Keep the final decision with a person
