How to do this task

Follow the method below, do the task, then check the result. Tool links show options, not extra steps you must complete.

Traditional approach
You can compare the lists manually by sorting both sources by label and checking each item side by side. This gives you direct control but still requires careful checks for duplicate labels, unchanged wording and unaccounted entries.
Use AI

If Claude is available to you under its current terms, use it to draft the comparison in one chat. This method has not been verified through a model run, so check every result against both sources. Review current access and data controls before pasting your content.

Prompt to use with your assistant
Compare Source A, the earlier baseline, with Source B, the later version. Match items only when they have the same usable label. Create these sections: 1. Unchanged: the label appears once in each source and its text is identical. Preserve the exact label and text. 2. Changed: the label appears once in each source but its text differs. Show the exact Source A text and exact Source B text. 3. Removed: the label appears only in Source A. Preserve its exact Source A text. 4. Added: the label appears only in Source B. Preserve its exact Source B text. 5. Questions: include raw entries with no usable label, entries that cannot be parsed, and duplicate or conflicting labels. State what a person needs to resolve without guessing. Account for every source item. Preserve exact wording, punctuation and supplied times. Do not describe a label found only in one source as missing: it is removed if only in Source A and added if only in Source B. Do not infer reasons, dates, owners, approvals, benefits or any other missing facts. If something cannot be determined from the input, keep it in Questions. Finish with a short checklist for a person to compare the draft against both sources before sharing it.
What can go wrong
  • Similar labels or similar text may be matched even though only identical, usable labels should be matched.
  • A label found in only one source may be called missing instead of Removed or Added.
  • Malformed or duplicate entries may be dropped or forced into a status instead of being placed in Questions.
  • Original wording, punctuation or supplied times may change, or the draft may be shared without a line-by-line human check.

Human check before use

  • Every source item is accounted for, including entries with missing or duplicate labels.
  • Each usable unique label has exactly one appropriate status.
  • Identical and changed text under matching labels is classified correctly.
  • Labels found only in Source A are removed, and labels found only in Source B are added.
  • Original labels, wording, punctuation and supplied times are preserved.
  • Only malformed, unparseable, duplicate or conflicting labels appear in Questions.
  • No reasons, dates, owners, approvals, benefits or other missing facts are invented.
  • A person compares the final checklist with both source lists before sharing it.
