What it helps with and what to check

Good tasks to start with

  • Governed enterprise process automation
  • Teams with formal operations and audit needs

Keep an eye on

  • Implementation and governance are substantial
  • Automating a bad process makes failures faster

How to start

Tick each step as you work. These checks stay on this page only; they do not verify results in the external tool.

0 of 5 steps checked

1

Start with a fictional invoice check

Use UiPath Studio on Windows for this exercise, not Studio Web. Create a Process with Windows compatibility and VB language. Use a blank sequence and fictional numbers only. We will compare an invoice amount with an expected amount; we will not read invoices, connect an account, send email or pay anything. Access to Studio depends on your own installation and account.

2

Give both amounts a name

In Data Manager, create two Int32 variables: invoiceAmount with default 120 and expectedAmount with default 100. Give both the scope of the sequence containing the comparison. These are whole-number practice amounts in the same fictional unit. A real invoice needs currency, decimal precision, tax rules and missing-value checks; this exercise does not handle those.

3

Make a match and a mismatch take different paths

Add an If activity. For this VB project, set Condition to invoiceAmount = expectedAmount. In Then, add Log Message at Info level with Message "AMOUNT_MATCH_ONLY". In Else, add Log Message at Info level with Message "REVIEW_AMOUNT_MISMATCH". Keep the quotation marks around each message. These labels describe a comparison, not an approval. Logs may also be sent to Orchestrator, so keep real financial details out of them.

4

Run three cases and inspect the newest message

Run with invoiceAmount 120 and expectedAmount 100: expect REVIEW_AMOUNT_MISMATCH. Change the invoice amount to 100 and run again: expect AMOUNT_MATCH_ONLY. Change it to 80: expect REVIEW_AMOUNT_MISMATCH. Inspect the newest Info log for each run; old log entries are not the current result. These are expected results from the comparison rule, not observed UiPath runs. If a variable is unknown, check its name and scope; if both branches seem to have run, first check the run timestamps.

5

Turn the check into a requirement someone can review

In the requirements worksheet below, record the two inputs, the equality rule and all three expected results. Add an explicit limit: equal amounts do not prove the supplier, invoice or payment is valid. Before connecting real data, use the policy Task to name who may access it, where logs go and who approves the next action. Keep this exercise as a comparison until those decisions are settled.
