Write the expected result first
Use the requirements worksheet below to define a tiny transformation: take the fictional array ["Draft", "Review", "Publish"] and produce Draft | Review | Publish. Preserve item order and use a space, vertical bar and space as the separator. This is text formatting only: the word Publish must not trigger publication. Use a permitted practice environment, not an existing team flow.
Create a manually triggered practice flow
In Power Automate, choose Create and an Instant flow, select Manually trigger a flow, give it a clear practice name, and create it. Check that your account and environment allow this. Add no email, Teams, HTTP or Excel action for this exercise. A cloud flow processes its inputs in the service; fictional text avoids exposing real work while you learn.
Put the list in Compose
Add an action, search for Compose, and choose Data Operation > Compose. Enter ["Draft", "Review", "Publish"] as the array in Inputs. Keep the array shape: three separate text items, not one string containing the whole list. Save the flow. The checked requirement is three items in their original order, not merely that the editor accepted the text.
Join the previous output and inspect the run
Add Data Operation > Join. In From, use dynamic content to select Outputs from Compose; in Join with, enter " | " without the quotation marks. Save and run the manual flow, then inspect that run’s action inputs and outputs. Compose should contain three items and Join should show Draft | Review | Publish. A green run alone does not prove the text is right. These are authored expected results, not a recorded Microsoft trial.
Change one item to catch a broken connection
Add "Archive" to the Compose array and run again. The Join result should become Draft | Review | Publish | Archive without editing Join. If Archive is missing, check whether From contains a fixed list instead of Compose Outputs. Repair the mapping and repeat. Record both results in the requirements worksheet; review the policy Task before later connecting real services. This exercise has no scheduler, external action, duplicate prevention or recovery design.
