What it helps with and what to check
Good tasks to start with
- Creative video generation and editing
- Filmmaking experiments and effects
- Teams wanting one web-based video workspace
Keep an eye on
- Credits and model access depend on the plan
- Generated footage needs rights and disclosure review
- Results can be inconsistent across shots
How to start
Tick each step as you work. These checks stay on this page only; they do not verify results in the external tool.

Choose one small shot
Practise with a fictional library announcement: a book opens on a wooden table, and the camera moves closer. No people, logos or readable text are needed. Keep the announcement words for the narration; asking the picture to do everything usually makes review harder. Use an image only if you own it or have permission.
Check the model before spending credits
In Runway, use Apps View to find Gen-4.5, or choose it in Tool Mode's Video model selector. The official instructions require Standard or higher. Check the options and credit cost shown in your own account before Generate. If the model is unavailable, keep your brief and use an owned video in the caption guide instead; buying a plan is not required for this practice.
Describe what moves
For Text to Video, try: “A closed book on a wooden library table slowly opens. The camera gently moves closer. Warm light, no people.” This is an authored practice prompt, not a tested output. For Image to Video, upload a permitted starting image and describe the movement you want; the image already supplies the composition. Check aspect ratio, duration (the documented range is 2–10 seconds) and FPS in Advanced settings before generating.
Change one thing at a time
Play the result. Check whether the book stays recognisable, the motion is readable and the frame has no unwanted text or objects. If the camera movement distracts, try “The camera stays still” while keeping the rest unchanged. Compare the two shots before spending more credits. A retry may improve the shot, but no result is guaranteed.
Save and check the actual file
Use the download controls below the right side of the finished output. For several assets, the documented route is Dashboard → Assets → select items → Actions → Download; this downloads a ZIP. Extract it, open each saved video and check duration and picture quality outside Runway. If the editor cannot import the saved format, keep the original and use a supported owned clip rather than assuming every download will work.
Add the voice before making captions
A short generated shot is only picture material. To complete the linked task, assemble a 20–30-second sequence and add clear narration that matches your source script. In the existing wide.video guide, choose the separate-picture-and-voice help: place the voice on New Empty Layer with Time explicitly set to the start. If the duration doubles, fix its placement. Generate captions from the spoken audio clip, then check the saved MP4. Select Ready only after the required picture and voice are actually present.
