Export a captioned MP4 with wide.video

Make a captioned video in six steps. Choose what you see in the editor to get help when you get stuck. AhaDo does not receive your media; you report your own progress.

Follow the steps

Follow these steps in wide.video, then return here to choose what happened. AhaDo does not receive your clip, script, file name or account details.

Verified route: wide.video 1.7.10 in Firefox on macOS. Finish and export before closing or reloading the temporary editor project. Other browsers, mobile editing and Chinese speech recognition were not verified.

This saves no media, script, file name or account details. It does not restore the external editor project. Clear my progress removes these saved choices.

Step 1 of 6

Prepare one short message

Choose one thing your audience should understand. Use a 20–30-second non-sensitive clip with one clear speaker. Keep the intended words beside you to check captions later. Use material you own or have permission to use; remove private screens, contact details and confidential information. If practising with synthetic material, label the result as practice.

What you should see

One short, non-sensitive clip with clear speech, plus the intended words to check later.

Prepare one clear message with a content outline

Going back clears later results and file checks. After editing a clip or caption, repeat the export and review.

Read all steps

  2. Put the clip on the timeline

Open wide.video and choose Open Temporary Project. Select Click to browse, or drag & drop files here, then choose your clip. Select Add New Clip → File → Create Clip From Media. If Match Scene asks to use the clip size and frame rate, choose Yes. Play the timeline and check picture and voice. Finish and export before closing or reloading: Firefox cannot reopen a project folder on this tested route.

  3. Generate and inspect captions

With the clip selected, choose Smart Tools → Auto Captions → Generate Captions. Choose the spoken Source Language and keep Target Language: Original (No Translation). The verified English sample used Base, no speaker identification and no noise reduction. Choose Generate Captions again. First use downloads model files before transcription. Wait for timed sentences to appear; compare every one with your source script. Chinese is listed as a source option, but its recognition accuracy was not tested here.

  4. Correct text and readability

Right-click a timeline sentence → Edit Cue. Correct the text from your script and check Start and Duration against the voice. Save with Edit Cue and replay. For full-sentence readability, replace word-timestamp markup with the plain sentence and leave Karaoke unchecked; this removes word dimming while keeping cue timing. Check the first, middle and last cue for clipped text, wrong words and mistiming.

  5. Export and save the MP4

Choose Project → Export → MP4 H.264 · AAC, All Clips and original resolution. Keep the complete message. You can trim an unused ending with Duration in Export Setup; the verified sample kept 22 seconds from a 24-second source. Leave enough time for the final words and caption. Turn off max performance mode if you want the computer to stay more responsive. Choose Export, wait for completion, then Save As. Find the saved MP4 in Firefox downloads before closing the project.

  6. Check the file you will actually use

Open the saved MP4 outside the editor and play it from start to finish. Check playback and voice, the 20–30-second duration, caption accuracy and timing, consistency with the source, and permission to use the material. If anything fails, correct the source or captions and export again. Report the result only after your checks. AhaDo has not inspected the file; publishing or sharing is a separate decision.

One synthetic engineering replay on 7 September 2026: wide.video 1.7.10, Firefox 153 on macOS, timed captions and a downloaded 22-second H.264/AAC MP4. This is not a real-user success rate or transcription benchmark. Firefox temporary projects cannot be restored after closing; mobile editing, other browsers and Chinese recognition were not verified.
