Bring the question and the mistaken attempt
Open the maths-mistake Task below. Use its fictional example or type a non-sensitive question together with the learner’s attempt. Include each line of working, not only the final answer. Copy the Task prompt and ask for the first unsupported step before asking for a complete solution.
Request one hint before the answer
Ask for a single hint tied to that step and let the learner try again. If the reply jumps to a final solution, ask it to return to the disputed line and explain the rule used there. This is a teaching choice, not a special verified DeepSeek mode.
Recompute the disputed step independently
Check the arithmetic, signs, units and rule against the original question or class material. Substitute the proposed answer back when that is valid for the problem. If the explanation contradicts the source, keep the step unresolved and use the teacher’s method before sharing it with a child.
Keep a correction the learner can explain
Return to the guided review with the mistaken line, the corrected line and one reason in the learner’s own words. Use the follow-up check from the Task. A copied answer is not evidence that the learner can solve a similar question independently.
